Renting DVC Points 101
This is your basic guide to renting Disney Vacation Club points to help you save money and to use the right resources to avoid scams.
What is Disney Vacation Club?
Disney Vacation Club (DVC) is the timeshare program through Disney. Anyone can buy a certain number of vacation points for a certain fee per point. Owners are guaranteed to have a certain number of points each year until their expiration year.

Why Would I Consider Renting DVC Points?
Renting DVC points is an attractive option for people who want to save money staying in a deluxe category resort. Vacationers would receive the same benefits as a deluxe resort guest including using the pool, amenities, early entry, and extended evening hours. However, you would not be qualified for any Disney Vacation Club owner benefits. Renting DVC points can give you significant savings especially at a resort that you really want to stay at during your Disney World vacation!
Why Do Disney Vacation Club Owners Rent Out Points?
There are many reasons for owners to rent their points. Some owners might not take a trip in the near future, and do not want to waste their points (not using points would be a waste of money for the owner!)
How Can I Rent Disney Vacation Club Points for My Disney Vacation?
The BEST and SAFEST way to rent DVC points is to use a third-party company that acts as a mediator between the renter and owner. There will be a contract involved as to protect you from having your money essentially being stolen and not used in good faith.
We have personally used two companies to rent DVC points, which both have different strategies. I also recommend a third company that we have worked with but didn't have a chance to rent points from. All three companies were fantastic and have great reputations and prices!
They all work differently and I explain them all in greater detail with my DVC Rental Company Blog Post Series.

Is a DVC Rental Right for My Disney World Vacation?

The first time we heard about renting DVC points was when we were trying to find a nice place for our Disney honeymoon. We were more hesitant then and didn't have time to really dive into it (with planning a wedding and everything!). So when we were looking for a Walt Disney World Resort for our fifth wedding anniversary (and first trip with kids!), we wanted to be close to the parks and have a little bit more room to accommodate nap times and have a refrigerator!
After doing the math, we knew our best chance of getting this type of accommodation was by renting DVC points. We were able to get a 2 Bedroom Villa for us and extended family at Beach Club Villas during Thanksgiving week for a nice discount.

So, in the end, it's all about what you need for your resort room during your Disney World vacation, and if you want the added benefit for extended evening hours at a cheaper price.
